Located outside the Beltway, Upper Marlboro, Maryland is located 40 minutes outside of Washington, D.C., via Route 4. As the county seat of Prince Georges County, Maryland the Town of Upper Marlboro houses the historic Prince George’s County Courthouse (established in 1721), the County Administration Building, and the area school system’s Board of Education offices; all of which are situated in the downtown area. Additionally, he town’s Equestrian Center hosts horse shows, concerts, sports matched, and other events.
The Downtown area of Upper Marlboro offers a quaint yet tranquil environment on the west side of town, while the Greater Upper Marlboro area is more rural. The downtown area has 313 residential homes while the Greater Upper Marlboro area holds many single-family dwellings. These areas exemplify the rustic, small-town feeling of the area.
Watkins Regional Park is the town’s largest park. It offers campgrounds, basketball and tennis courts, a Wizard of Oz-themed playground, an antique carousel, and several hiking trails. A miniature train runs through the park; offering views of the woodlands as well as glimpses of local wildlife and faces carved into trees. The park also has an 18-hole putt-putt golf course.
Montpelier Farm Family Park is another one of Upper Marlboro’s parks that offers a variety of activities for adults and children; including a farmer’s market, hill slides, a moon bounce, and wine tasting. The facility is also available for rentals for all kinds of events, including wedding and parties.
