The town's own history describes a downtown built up around the Great Road turnpike and later a railroad that reached Purcellville in 1874 and operated until 1968. That same history records fires in 1900 and 1914 that destroyed much of the original business district; the rebuilt blocks were later added to the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places. Purcellville's newer subdivisions sit beside that rebuilt core, so a home's age and materials vary block by block rather than following one pattern.
For a downtown Purcellville property near Main Street, identify whether the building was rebuilt after the early fires or dates to a later period, and describe any apartment above a storefront and its shared roof or plumbing. In Hirst Farm or Dunolan, note whether the home sits on a larger lot with a well, septic system or detached structure. For a townhome in Locust Grove or a house in Village Case, describe crawlspace access and any addition built since the original construction. Mayfair's newer construction still warrants details of window and door installation if a leak is the concern.

01
A residence above or behind a Main Street storefront may share a roof and plumbing chase with the business it sits above. Describe when the building was renovated, whether the unit has a separate roof section, and where staining or odor was first noticed relative to the storefront below.
02
A well house or pump room near Hirst Farm or Dunolan can introduce moisture through its own plumbing and often sits close to the foundation. Describe its distance from the house, any recent pump repair, and whether dampness appears seasonally or after specific weather.
03
An addition built onto an older house can meet the original wall at a roofline or foundation step that behaves differently in rain. Describe when the addition was built relative to the original house and where a stain or odor sits relative to that seam.
Where we test in Purcellville, and what to tell us
Village Case
This pedestrian-oriented section is built around a central green and tree-lined streets. Identify whether a home here has a basement, crawlspace or slab foundation, and describe any porch or addition built after the original construction.
Hirst Farm and Dunolan
Homes on larger lots in these areas may rely on a well and septic system rather than public utilities. Describe any well house, pump room or detached structure near the main house, and note grading or drainage work close to the foundation.
Locust Grove and Mayfair
Locust Grove mixes townhomes with detached houses near downtown, while Mayfair's construction is more recent. Identify the foundation type and crawlspace access for either, and describe window or door installation dates if a leak is the concern.
We do not remove mold, so we have nothing to gain from your results. If your report shows a problem, you choose who fixes it. Once the work is done, we can test again and tell you what we find.
Virginia's residential disclosure statement advises buyers to exercise due diligence, including considering a mold assessment conducted by a business following EPA guidance. Confirm the scope and timing with your agent before settlement. A laboratory sample documents a selected place and time; it does not certify an entire home as mold-free or replace advice about your transaction.
Va. Code section 55.1-703. Current as of September 2026. General information, not legal advice.
If the concern is limited to a single room, Mold Basic tests that targeted area. Mold Plus adds a moisture and thermal evaluation of the same space, which can help explain a pattern of dampness. Describe the room, when it was noticed, and any recent repair, and the office can help you choose between them.
Air sampling uses a pump, and a surface sample can be taken from an accessible spot, without opening walls or removing historic material. Describe any delicate plaster, trim or masonry finishes when booking. If a concern appears to reach behind a finished surface, the technician can explain what a non-invasive visit can and cannot answer.
Locate the well house or pump room and note its distance from the area of concern before the visit. Mention any recent pump service, water treatment equipment or past flooding near that structure. This helps the technician consider a rural water system as one possible factor alongside others.
Describe roughly when the addition was built relative to the original house, and whether the roofline, siding or foundation changes at that seam. A stain or odor near that junction benefits from knowing which side is older, since the two sections may perform differently in the same storm.
