Frequently Asked Questions

Is there demand for home inspectors?
Yes. There is currently a shortage of certified home inspectors in many markets across the U.S. and Canada. Once certified, job prospects are strong.
How long does it take to become certified?
It depends on your state’s requirements, how much time you dedicate to training, and your exam timing. Most students who train with ICA are able to begin their new career within a few months.
Do I need prior experience in construction or real estate?
No prior industry experience is required. Many states only require a high school diploma or GED. A desire to learn and the ability to work well with clients are key.
What training formats are available?
ICA offers fully online coursework, classroom/in-person options in select locations, and hands-on field training with a licensed inspector. In most states you can start online, then add live and field training; some states have no specific requirements.
How much does training cost?
A fully online home inspector course typically costs $700–$1,000. In-person classes and/or field training vary from about $1,300–$3,000. ICA’s online course starts at $695.
What’s included in the ICA packages?
Foundation ($695): Online certification course, exam prep, lifetime access and support, 14 bonus courses (including marketing/business), Pro Nitro reporting software (free for life), InterNACHI textbooks, and $100 off InterNACHI 1‑year membership.
Premier ($995): Everything in Foundation, plus NHIE e‑book set, ICA 360 one‑year access (virtual inspection footage), and Commercial Inspection Certification Course.
Elite ($1,395): Everything in Premier, plus two certification courses (Radon, Mold, Sewer, or Drone, depending on state), free 1‑year InterNACHI All‑Access membership, and the ICA Elite Inspector (IEI) designation.
Do I need to take a licensing exam?
Many states require a state board licensing exam; others use the National Home Inspector Examination (NHIE). Quality training programs include exam preparation. If your state does not require an exam, you may still take the NHIE to strengthen your credentials.
Where are courses offered and how do schedules work?
The online course is available 24/7. Live classes and/or field training are offered across multiple states (including FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, MD, MA, NV, NY, NC, OH, TN, TX, VA, WA, and WI). Visit ICA’s website for current schedules and locations.
What financing options are available?
Purchases of $499+ may qualify for financing with Affirm (quick eligibility check, no hidden fees; rates from 0–36% APR; terms depend on amount/state). PayPal also offers a four‑month, 0% APR pay‑in‑4 option on $499+ purchases.
